General Chemistry

Students will learn to define matter and classify it

according to chemical and physical properties. 

The historical development and modern

theory of understanding to predict bonding using
the periodic table.

They will write formulas for compounds using their

understanding of the periodic
table and accepted rules of practice. 

Students will describe chemical reactions by using balanced

equations and derive mathematical
relationships using the mole concept.

Study Skills

Study Skills is a course designed to
provide tutorial assistance
and academic support to students.
Academic progress is evaluated and
assessed on a daily/weekly basis
through the monitoring of
assignments from subject areas
and study skills assignments.

                CLASSROOM POLICIES

                Makeup Work:
                1. EXCESSIVE ABSENCES WILL ADVERSELY
                AFFECT THE SUCCESS OF THE STUDENT.
                2. IT IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY
                TO GET ALL MAKEUP WORK FROM THE TEACHER.
                3. The student has the same number of
                days to make up work that was missed due to
                an excused absence.
                (Absent 2 days? 2 days to make up missed work)
                4. If absent on a test day, student
                will be expected to makeup the test on their return to school.

                CLASSROOM RULES

                1. You are expected to tuck in your shirt, pull up your pants and
                remove all head coverings before entering the classroom.
                2. You are expected to be inside the classroom
                in your seat when the tardy bell rings.
                3. Book bags and large purses are not permitted in the classroom.
                4. Bring your notebook and materials to class everyday.
                All work should be kept in your notebook.
                5. No personal grooming during class time.
                6. No throwing paper, pencils, pens
                or any other item in the classroom.
                7. No horse playing in the classroom.
                8. No use of improper language
                towards teacher or students.
                9. Clean up after yourself.
                No food, drinks, gum, or candy is allowed in the classroom.
                10. Only turn in work that is honestly obtained and is your own.
                Cheating and plagiarism go will result in a 0 on the assignment.
                11. All other rules and regulations that are
                Dekalb County Public School policies and Stone Mountain Policies must be followed
                (This Includes Book-bags, Tuck and Pull, and Dress Code)

                detention and/or a conduct referral.

                Detention: if assigned, the student will
                provide community service for a period of ¼ to ½ hour
                depending on the frequency and severity of the rule broken.
                Detention must be served on the next day after school.
                The report time is 3:25 p.m. If a student refuses to serve detention,
                the parent/Guardian will be contacted and a conduct referral will be
                submitted to the Discipline principal.
                The Infraction will be "refusal to accept disciplinary action"
                along with a description of the rule broken.

                    DEPARTMENTAL FUNDRAISER:

                    Recycle your cell phones or inkjet cartridges.
                    Turn in cellular phones-working or
                    not for 10 points extra credit.
                    Also accepting inkjet cartridges.
